Week 88
Sunday
Another early start on the trip boat. Mrs. Fitter was volunteered for an additional trip, before her planned journey. This mean more food preparation, which the fitter got roped into as well. With Mrs. Fitter out on her first trip, the fitter got the other trip boat ready. He also had to go to the local station to collect his daughter who had also been volunteered to lend a hand.
All our trip boat duties were over shortly after 5pm. We took our trip boat gear to our boat, emptied the fridge and freezer and then locked the boat and headed home in the car. We called at our daughter's for a pizza before heading to our house where the fitter spent the evening on the PC, writing up the last few day's entries on the web site.
Monday
This really is going to be a boring week for those keen to find how work on our boat is progressing. The fitter was in London on Monday and had to get stuck into some computer programming in the evening.
Tuesday
The fitter was back in London again on Tuesday and carrying on with the programming on Tuesday evening.
Wednesday
Wednesday is usually a day when the fitter manages to avoid going to London and manages to get to the boatyard. He then returns home in the late afternoon or early evening prior to a third visit to London on Thursday.
This week was different. The fitter was going to be at the boatyard during the day for more trip boat duties but he was then planning to stay on his boat until after Sunday's trip boat task as he was required for trip boat working on Thursday in addition to the other three days.
He managed to do a bit on the PC on Wednesday morning before he went to the boatyard and some more on the laptop in the evening before having to go and collect Mrs. Fitter, who had been out for the evening with a women's group that she belongs to.
Thursday
Both the fitter and Mrs. Fitter were working on the trip boats on Thursday and then went to the quiz. The normal quiz master had been in hospital since Monday so a substitute took charge, reducing the number of teams by one. The boatyard team, who had the highest number of members, won again, although not by such a large margin as the previous time.
Friday
The fitter took Mrs. Fitter to the local station just before 8.30am. He then returned to the boatyard for two trip boat duties although he did manage to get a short while during the middle of the day to check his mail.
He collected Mrs. Fitter from the station around 5.30pm and they ate on the boat, after which it was back tot he PC but only after rubbing down the Corian filler in the shower. Although the surface is smooth,t here is still evidence that a hole or something similar had been there. The fitter is undecided whether to try remaking the hole and re-filling or to accept that we're never going to totally eradicate the evidence of the two holes that originally supported the shower.
The quiz master returned home on Friday afternoon. There's still no firm conclusion about his problems, but he has enough tablets to sink the proverbial battleship. He looked quite tired and was going to try and get a break to aid his recovery.
Saturday
We had talked about taking the boat out on Friday evening if the weather was nice and returning on Saturday morning in time to prepare the trip boat. In the end we decided against it, even though it was a reasonably pleasant on Friday evening. This was rather fortunate because we started work on preparing the trip boat just before 9am on Saturday and only just managed to get it finished in time for the early afternoon trip.
We were back from one trip by mid afternoon and then had an hour to tidy up that boat before we went off on the other boat. We were back from our second trip at 8.30pm and cleared up within 15 minutes of getting back. Then, instead of retiring to our own boat for the evening, we returned to our boat and collected our things and went home.
Mrs. Fitter is at church on Sunday morning and would not have got home (by train) until after 10pm on Saturday - Sunday trains are not suitable to get her to church in time. Similarly, our daughter, who was replacing her mum on the trip boats, couldn't get to the boatyard early enough by train on Sunday morning, which meant that she would have needed to drive to and from the boatyard on Sunday. By going home and using no extra car journeys over the two days, we got Mrs. Fitter home earlier on Saturday and saved our daughter's petrol money (at the cost of our own)!
