Build Continues

We're now a week further into the build - 12½ working days after the build started and a week after our previous set of pictures was taken. Here is an update of the progress.

What the rear will look like This is another cheat, something akin to looking into the future. The picture shows the rear of the boat that was alongside ours when we visited last week. This boat is now resplendent in primer and sits in the yard waiting for transport. Alongside, and just visible, is a seventeen year old boat that is about to be lengthened. The picture was taken to ensure that we know how the rear fender will need to be constructed.
eight days old, a view from the front The remainder of this batch of pictures is in a logical order, starting from the front. Hear we can see the foredeck and, just visible, is the weedhatch for the bowthruster. I still can't get over the amount of red oxide paint that has been applied. I don't see how rust stands a chance!
one of the builders wanted his picture taken! A view of the cabin front, taken from over the starboard side of the main saloon. Once again, our arrival didn't coincide with a work break, so we had to snatch a couple of quick pictures by interrupting the workers. We don't think they minded because they were able to have a cigarette!
The steel work inside the stern is taking shape This is the main cabin, again from the starboard side, and looking towards the rear. Compare this picture with the similar view taken the previous week. Most of the cross supports have now been removed and, very shortly the roof will be added. We have to admit a slight disappointment when we visited. We had expected to see the roof either on or being put on. But then we realised that this visit was about three hours earlier in the day than the visit the previous week!
The engine compartment viewed from the front Finally, for this set of pictures, a view of the rear, again showing the cabin end wall. To my untrained eye the rear looks finished, apart from the engine which is still about eight days away from being installed. It still seems unbelievable that in just two weeks - to the day and probably the hour, we will be setting off on the boat's first trip. Bare steel will be in green primer, the cabin will have spray foam insulation and ballast installed. The second coat of black will have been applied to the hull and the windows and doors will be in place. We've seen what we believe are our windows awaiting installation, so there shouldn't be a hold up there.

As far as we can tell at present, On Schedule ! will be "launched" on 18 October 2006 at Stockton Top Marina on the Grand Union Canal. The indication is that loading onto the lorry will start at around 8am and On Schedule ! should be in the water by about 10am.
